Education in Motion
The Medical Training Simulation Unit was fundraised for by the Regional EMS Foundation. Special thanks goes out the County of Grande Prairie, City of Grande Prairie, and the County of Northern Lights, along with our community and event supporters. We are pleased to announce that together we have raised over $200,000. The MSTU has been active on the road in 2015 and 2016.
This unit ihas been fabricated in the same method as the two other Medical Training Simulation Units in the Edmonton and Calgary areas. This unit is an actual decommissioned ambulance body on a large truck chassis, specially equipped for travel in northern region. Our practitioners along with their allied agencies such as medical co-response groups, search and rescue teams, air ambulance groups and even Emergency Room personnel can benefit from real life like scenarios practiced in real time in a setting exactly the same as what they would be working in each day. Practitioners from the north can benefit from the same quality training and practice as those practitioners from larger centers, and the best part…they don’t even have to leave the community in which they work in! The training comes to them!
This unit is equipped with a state of the art wireless mannequin capable of realistic responses such as sweating, crying, talking, bleeding, and allows for actual live saving procedures to be practiced. The scenario is conducted by examiners in the front compartment of the unit, who are able to deliver the scenario through the audio visual equipment. This ensures there are no interruptions or interventions in order for the examiner to deliver a much more realistic scenario, optimizing the learning opportunity. This equipment can record the scenario for evaluation afterwards to further the learning experience.
The Regional EMS Foundation is happy to bring this important training unit to the North Zone and help to enhance the care our patients receive during emergencies!
